As an international leader in battery technology, Celltech Group leverages its position to foster sustainability across the global supply chain. By collaborating closely with suppliers, we ensure the optimisation of technical solutions and uphold our commitment to delivering sustainable value to our customers. This robust partnership approach not only mitigates sustainability risks but also supports continuous development throughout our value chain.
Driving Sustainability with Clear Goals – 80% Supply Chain Sustainability Compliance
At Celltech, our sustainable supply chain goal is clear: by 2030, we aim to have 80% of our purchase volume assessed in alignment with our Code of Conduct. In 2023, we had already reached 73%, and we hope to achieve the 2030 goal as early as next year. Through structured supplier reviews, we promote good working conditions and responsible production practices. This commitment extends across all our companies, with coordinated efforts that focus on transparent, proactive supplier assessments and improvements.
Strategic Supplier Relationships for Sustainable Impact
Guided by Celltech’s principles of long-term value, we maintain in-depth relationships with a select group of suppliers who meet the industry’s highest standards. “Our size makes us an attractive partner to many suppliers,” notes Peter Andersson, head of Celltech Group. “However, we focus on developing long-term, in-depth relationships with a select group of suppliers who we believe are the best in the industry. Our companies collaborate directly with these suppliers on various sustainability initiatives, among other issues.” By collaborating on sustainability, we drive positive change that benefits all stakeholders.
Strength in Co-Creation Across the Celltech Group
With a comprehensive supplier assessment system, Celltech companies share resources and insights, allowing us to act as a unified entity. “Within Celltech Group, we support each other in selecting, assessing, and investing in suppliers who meet our high standards,” says Anders Blomqvist, Managing Director at Celltech Oy. This shared approach not only strengthens our supplier relationships but also enhances our competitiveness.
The Power of Scale: Partnering with Leading Manufacturers
Celltech’s scale and reputation open doors to collaborate with the world’s leading manufacturers, creating incentives for long-term partnerships. According to Blomqvist, “Our collective strength as a group enables us to engage with top-tier suppliers, fostering relationships that might not be feasible for smaller companies.”
Transparency and Shared Data on Quality and Compliance
Through Celltech’s supplier assessment system, all companies in the group access up-to-date materials on supplier performance, including level of quality, certifications and compliance with our Code of Conduct. This data sharing allows us to screen more suppliers thoroughly, enhancing customer trust in our high standards for battery solutions.
Partnering with Industry Leaders for Quality and Reliability
“Battery production is a relatively complicated process, so it is necessary to partner with suppliers who are truly at the forefront of development. Our focus is to select the suppliers with the best track record, offering the highest level of quality, that are reliable in terms of delivery and that are able to resolve the problems that often arise. They must also share our view on creating technical solutions contributing to sustainable transition,” says Blomqvist
A Key Player in the Shift to Electrification
Celltech Group plays a central role in providing key technology in electrification. The availability of batteries is an important piece of the puzzle in meeting existing and future legal requirements to phase out fossil fuels. The battery industry is definitely in an expansive phase with great future potential, where it is also important to be able to respond to the regulatory requirements set out in the environmental legislation.
Proactive Adaptation to Industry Regulations
“The EU’s new Battery Regulation, which came into effect in 2023, will completely transform the market, particularly with regard to industrial batteries,” Peter Andersson says. “The environmental requirements have been raised significantly. Celltech Group does not see this as a problem – but as a great opportunity to create competitive advantages because our companies are so far ahead in the field with our sustainable technical solutions.
Celltech has been proactive, contributing feedback on these regulations and leading efforts locally to establish producer responsibility organisations for industrial batteries.”
Powering a Sustainable, Electrified Future
As a critical player in the global energy transition, Celltech Group is positioned to support the shift towards renewable energy by developing sustainable, compliant battery solutions. Through collaborative partnerships with our suppliers, we are committed to advancing battery technologies that align with regulatory standards and contribute to a more sustainable society. Together, we’re powering a cleaner, electrified future.
